What is a Charter School

Charter schools are public schools of choice. They are funded by the state, have a contract (or charter) with the local school district, and are monitored by the school district and the state. Although they are monitored by the district and state, they are self-managed and operate independently from the district. Charter schools may be created with a specific purpose in mind.

As the senior member of the Superintendent's staff and attorney to the School Board of Seminole County. Florida is primarily responsible for charter school oversight, it is my observation that Choices In Learning Charter School is an outstanding example of what a Florida charter school can be and should be.  It is an excellent school and a strong partner with the District's elementary schools for quality public education in Seminole County, Florida.
